Given the establishment of the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) by the 2005 Millennium Summit and the need to ensure that countries emerging from conflict can construct a sustained peace, the Stanley Foundation convened about 25 governmental and nongovernmental officials near New York on June 19-21, 2009, to examine practical steps toward meeting this goal at a roundtable conference 'Peacebuilding Following Conflict'.
